Lashkar commander among two militants killed in Pulwama gunfight, One Civilian killed, scores injured after forces open fire during Pulwama clashes

Police on Saturday said the two militants killed in a gunfight with government forces in Litter village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit.
An official identified the slain militants as Wasim Shah @Usama, resident of Heff and NAsir Ahmad Mir of Litter.
Shah, he said, was the Shopian district commander of the LeT.
He said one Ak-47, one AK-57 and six AK magazines were recovered from the gunfight site.
Meanwhile, dozens of civilians were injured in massive clashes that erupted in Litter and adjacent villages of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district as the gunfight raged on.
People took to streets after announcements were made over the public address system of the mosques asking them to come out.
The protesters pelted the forces with stones in Litter where the encounter is going on and adjacent villages to help the militants escape.
The forces responded by firing tear gas shells and resorted to firing.
Hospital sources said that dozens of were injured in the forces’ action. At least three persons were hit by bullets, they said.
Earlier, an official said that an operation was launched following “specific intelligence inputs” about the presence of militants in Litter village.
As the forces personnel approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired at them, triggering a gunfight in which two of them were killed.

A civilian was killed and over twenty others injured after government forces opened fire during clashes in Litter and adjacent villages of Pulwama district where a gunfight erupted early today.
Local sources said that Gulzar Ahmad Mir, son-in-law of Sanaullah Mir, a resident of Allaypora was injured during the clashes.
He was rushed to the SMHS hospital in Srinagar but he succumbed.
Sources said that another civilian, identified as Muhammad Ashraf Mir with firearm injury was referred to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment.
They said that around four civilians with pellet injuries were shifted to District Hospital Pulwama.
